The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced its ninth extension of temporary requirements offering flexibility of physical presence requirements associated with Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Why Another Extension?
The temporary requirements were extended again as a result of COVID-19-related precautions. As with the previous extensions, this extension only applies to workplaces and employers operating remotely. While more companies begin to return to the office, it’s important to note this extension will start applying to fewer and fewer employers. This new extension is set to expire on Aug. 31, 2021.
E-Verify Users
USCIS recommends qualifying E-Verify users that opt for the remote inspection to follow the current guidance, creating cases for new employees within three business days of their hire date.
